“All is gone!”
by Misako Rosen / Gallerist

Los Angeles based potter Adam Silverman has visited Tokyo 3 times this year. And in July, Silverman was found in rural Mashiko. Away from the usual Tokyo scenery, he had set out to experience something completely different from what he has back home: throwing pots to fire in climbing wood fire kiln. All day long for about 5 days in July, Silverman stood face to face with the kiln. Then the fall came, and he was back in Tokyo again, for his solo show at TKG Editions. Silverman’s forms suggest an outer space being, and pleasantly deprives the traditional idea towards pottery. When he creates a color, he imagines the form to go with it. And when the form comes first, he would come up with the color and texture that will go precisely along with it. Bisque fired pots are coated with glaze then get fired and grinded. Several rounds of this and when the pots are finally done, the color and form makes a living sculpture in tune with nature. As the glaze names such as “Hyena” and “Green Lava” describes, Silverman’s organic form makes the pots seem indeed alive. After majoring in architecture at college, he became the co-founder of fashion line X-Large. After leaving the fashion world behind, Silverman has been an active potter at his own Atwater Pottery,
