"I needed to take
that next step.
"

"I was just a potter until now, and only needed to make functional pieces. I didn't need to think about the significance or a concept. I just had to make things that I thought were beautiful or interesting formally. But while doing that, I always asked myself, what next? Isn't there a need to make that next step? That question was always in the back of my mind. That's how I gradually started to close up the flower vases' mouth, working toward something more abstract. "

Last year in Los Angeles, Griffith Park suffered a large-scale wild fire. Charcoaled remains from that fire were picked up and used to make the frames to display some of Adam Silverman's piece in the show. Each clay piece would easily sit on your palm, and the functionality, such as a vase for the flower, is nowhere to be seen. But each piece succeeds in casting one of a kind colors and kaleidoscopic expression, and when seen with that charcoal frame, each evokes a micro cosmos within them. Adam Silverman's new attempt casts a light on the new potential of ceramic art.

"Some pieces are made with wood I found in a construction site garbage pile, and some use wood I bought from the store. Some of these pieces were born from the places where the wood could have been thrown away or lost (Griffith Park), which I find beautiful. That's what really is exciting for me.

I'll sell anything I make (laughs). I do have to make a living, you know. It is true that some of them I do find hard to part with, and do not want to let them go. However most of the time, I make a point in selling the pieces I make. I've always done that in my life."
